Research and implement open-source solutions; conduct POCs (Proof of
Concepts) & pitch innovative solutions to customers.
Understand customer requirements over calls, emails, or meetings and
come up with a proposed solution.
Implement the accepted plan, train the client’s team appropriately,
coordinate with the client, build or polish documentation, and hand over
the setup after acceptance.
Train internal team members, grow the internal knowledge base (KB),
and lead Open Source and Linux practices for the company.
Help in hiring the next level of open-source and Linux enthusiasts as part
of the company’s growth.
Understand the problem, pitch a solution, implement it, and go after the
next problem. He/she can assume different problems, different flavors of
Linux, different servers, and different architectures at each client and
thus, unparalleled learning and growth. All this would be with team
members who share the same passion for learning and issue resolution.
Core Tasks:
Provide ongoing support on various flavors of Linux for different types of
applications and use cases in a production environment.
Configure and manage different types of Linux services (Web, DNS,
Email, etc.)
Should be good at learning new technologies based on Internet search and
administrative guides
Should have experience in configuring and managing infrastructure with
a large number of Linux-based servers
Assist in the design and development of open-source products and
solutions
Prepare required documentation and associated diagrams based on the
project needs
Deal with all types of open-source or Linux-related incidents to ensure
that Service Level Agreements with customers are adhered to.
Build and maintain working relationships with key interconnect partners
and customers
Provide 24×7 support call support. This support might often require travel
to customers’ locations. Ad-hoc calls are minimal, typically at most one
call a month. Most other calls are planned downtime/maintenance calls.
Strong working knowledge in red-hat or CentOS flavors is preferred.
Competencies or Required Technical Skills:
Shell commands and working in terminal (ls, cp, mv, vim, rm, etc.)
Package installation (rpm, yum, etc.)
Service management (service, chkconfig, systemctl)
File permission understanding (chown, chgrp, chmod, etc.)
User account management (getent, useradd, usermod, groudadd, etc.)
Installation of different types of Linux
Basic understanding of what is a VM and what is virtualization
Basic of client side networking in terms of IP address, netmask, DHCP,
etc.
Understanding of linux troubleshooting by
o Looking at resource usage (free, df, )
o Looking at processes or open files (ps, lsof)Looking at log files
(/var/log/messages, journalctl, etc.)
Remotely working on linux machine (ssh, scp, rsync)
Windows and Linux interoperability (putty, winscp, ssh, rdesktop, etc.)
Basic Linux services required for most tasks (nfs, samba, httpd)
Comfort in configuring Linux firewall (iptables or firewalld)
Basic shell scripting skills
